Several years going through various challenge with my hair I have decided to transition to natural for good. On July 15, 2010 I made the decision to no longer add chemicals to my hair to straighten my new growth. I was inspired by my sister in law Denise, but what made me come to the conclusion that I don't know to texturize my hair any more was the hair stylist I was going to. When I needed her to do my hair for a wedding she blew me off. I found that sometimes going to a hair stylist they become a bit possessive when it comes to your hair, and they want to control what you do. So needless to say I feel liberated and more in control with my own hair.
What I find so fascinating about this hair journey is what I'm learning about my hair, my natural texture. I'm learning how to care for it, how to style it. I've always believed that Black Hair could not grow past the shoulders unless the female was mixed with another race. I am learning that hair is hair, and therefore it doesn't matter what race you are hair can and will grow.
I'm currently 5 months post texturizer and LOVING IT!!!! Though I do have my challenging days as this is a process having 2 different textures of hair, and learning how to style and manage it, I have no regrets. I look forward to my complete transition to natural.
